Supreme Oatmeal Cake - Irene West

1 ⅓ C boiling water
1 C oats

∙ Pour water over oats and let stand 20 minutes.

2 eggs
½ C shortening
1 C sugar
1 C brown sugar
1 ⅓ C flour
½ t cinnamon
1 t baking soda
½ t salt

∙ Cream shortening and sugars then add eggs and oats.
∙ Sift dry ingredients and add slowly.
∙ In a 9x13 pan bake at 350' for 35 minutes.

Icing:

6 T butter
¼ C milk
1 C nuts
½ C brown sugar
1 t vanilla

∙ Heat milk and butter on low heat till melted.
∙ Add other ingredients.
∙ Spread on after cake is baked.
∙ Put under broiler till icing bubbles.
∙ Be sure and watch very closely as it is apt to burn.
