Krispy Squares

Regular thickness:

¼ C margarine
10 oz pkg (about40) regular marshmallows OR 4 C mini marshmallows
5 C Rice Krispy’s

Thicker:

6 T margarine
16 oz regular marshmallows OR 6 ⅓ C mini marshmallows
10 C cereal

∙ Melt margarine in large saucepan over low heat.
∙ Add marshmallows and stir till completely melted.
∙ Cook over low heat 3 minutes longer stirring constantly.
∙ Remove from heat.
∙ Add cereal and gently stir till well coated.
∙ Using buttered spoon, press mixture evenly into buttered 13x9x2 inch pan.
∙ Cut into squares when cool.
∙ Makes 24 squares 2x2inghes.

Variations:

∙ Carmel: Partially melt ½ pkg (about 25) vanilla caramels with 1 T water and the margarine. Add marshmallows and continue.
∙ Chocolate: Melt 2 (2oz) squares baking chocolate with marshmallows.
∙ Citrus: Stir 1 T grated lemon peel or orange peel into marshmallows. Mix just before adding cereal.
∙ Jam: Stir ¼ C jam into marshmallow mix just before adding cereal.
∙ Peanut: Add 1 C salted cocktail peanuts with cereal.
∙ Raisins or Dates: Add 1 C raisins or finely cut dates with cereal.
∙ Spice: Stir ½ t cinnamon or ¼ t ginger into marshmallow mix.
∙ Tropical: Add 1 C shredded coconut and ½ C chopped walnuts with cereal.
∙ Tutti Frutti: Add ½ C chopped candied cherries and ½ C chopped pecans with cereal.
∙ Confetti: Immediately after pressing into pan, sprinkle 2 T multicolored cake decorating candies over top.
∙ Marble Chip: Add 1 (6 oz) pkg semisweet chocolate chips or butter-scotch chips or 1 C peanut butter flavored chips with cereal.
∙ Bran: Add ⅓ C allbran cereal with cereal.
∙ Sesame: Add 2 T sesame seed with cereal.
