Chow Mein - Helen Arrington

1 lb hamburger
1 C chopped onion
1 t salt
1 can bean sprouts
⅛ t pepper
1 C chopped celery
1 C hot water
1 C sliced water chestnuts
1 C bamboo shoots

∙ Brown meat and onion.
∙ Add celery, salt, pepper and water.
∙ Cover and cook 5 min.
∙ Add remaining ingredients.
∙ Heat to boiling.
∙ Add thickening (⅓ C cold water to 2 T corn starch, combined), 2 t soy sauce and 1 t sugar.
∙ Stir and cook 5 min.
∙ Serve over rice and chow mein noodles.
