In small bowl combine:
2 T yeast
½ C very warm water
1 t sugar
Stir till dissolved and set aside.
In large bowl combine:
½ C sugar
2 C milk
1 ½ T salt
4 C HOT water
½ C shortening or margarine

∙ Stir occasionally till all is dissolved and mixture is luke-warm
∙ Stir in yeast mixture and add about 12 C flour, one cup at a time, kneading well after each addition.
∙ Knead till it holds its shape, then spread top with shortening and cover with a towel.
∙ Let rise 1 hour.
∙ Punch down and knead a few times.
∙ Divide dough into five loaves in greased pans.
∙ Cover with a towel and let rise 1 hour.
∙ Bake at 425" 15 min then reduce heat to 325' and bake 20 min more.
